about

This "album" is the text setting of an academic essay about three composers that all seem to work in a particularly unique style of opera. In this project, I strove to imitate many of the musical and vocal styles of these composers and their operas while commenting on some of their defining characteristics in the process. I feel that this provides accurate glimpse into the most prevalent stylistic qualities of these works. In case there’s any curiosity over the tonal construction of the work: I used some repeating themes when discussing each one of the composers and the work as a whole modulates a chromatic mediant from section to section until the piece gets back to the key it started in. I feel that this performative aspect creates a sort of “opera” while using these techniques to illustrate how these particular operas function. Also, all of the parenthetical citations are sung through a vocoder.
